Firm and shapely breasts are for almost all women an expression of femininity. They contribute a great deal to self-assurance and contentment with oneself. It is normal for them to lose shape, fullness and elasticity with increasing age. Pregnancies and weight loss can also contribute to this.

The breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a procedure in which slackened, sagging breasts are raised and reshaped at the same time. Low-lying nipples are raised, enlarged areolae are reduced. If, in addition to the slackening of the breast, there is also a loss of volume - for example in the case of a small breast after a pregnancy - a Breast augmentation can be carried out at the same time as the lift.

There are very varied reasons why breasts sag. In some patients, loss and gain of weight are responsible for it. In other patients it is due to the tissue. Finally, pregnancies are frequently the cause as well. 

If a patient is basically satisfied with the size of the breast, then there is no reason to use implants. Naturally, with a pure lifting operation without implants the breast becomes a little smaller. We are talking here about a maximum of a quarter of a cup size.

It is particularly important to us to leave as few scars as possible with every breast lift. Modern techniques help to shorten scars, but how long the scar becomes in an individual case and how it will run can only be clarified in a personal conversation.

With breast lifts a compromise often has to be found between the ideal shape of the breast and the length of the scars. A decision that many of our patients do not find easy. We advise making it in favour of the shape of the breast, even if this results in somewhat larger scars. Every breast operation can influence the sensation in the area of the nipples. The reason for this is the many nerves in the breast, which can be affected during the procedure. In most cases, however, the sensitivity of the breast recovers completely in the course of the months. Sometimes the sensation in the nipples even becomes better through the procedure. When a breast is lifted, one naturally hopes that the breast will stay in the new position for as long as possible. In order to achieve this aim there are many surgical and suture techniques. As a rule, however, it is not sufficient to remove only the skin. For then the breast will as a rule soon sag again.

For every breast lift we therefore use the so-called technique of the "internal bra". This means that we change the internal architecture of the breast, partly by suturing tissue for support in the lower area of the breast and partly by using special suture techniques.
