MiraDry is a permanent solution for excessive sweating and strong sweat odour. In a recent study a sweat reduction of 82% was achieved with miraDry. The effect usually sets in immediately. As sweat glands do not regenerate, the result is permanent.

In a treatment with miraDry the odour glands are destroyed as well. That is why an unpleasant underarm odour always disappears too. A further positive side effect is the reduction of underarm hair.

For most patients only one treatment is necessary in order to achieve the intended result. As with every aesthetic treatment, however, the results differ from person to person, so that for some patients a second treatment is advisable.

Most patients feel no pain or hardly any pain, as the area of skin to be treated is anaesthetised locally beforehand. On a scale of 1 (= no pain) to 10 (= severe pain), patients rate miraDry with an average score of 2.

Sweating is a natural process of our body in order to cool itself. For this the body has more than four million sweat glands. Only about two per cent of them are located under the arms. If these two per cent are removed, this has no influence on the ability of the body to cool itself.

The procedure, which was developed in the USA, has approval from the American Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and has held the European CE certification for Europe, and thus also for Austria, since 2014.

In advance of the treatment we conduct a detailed medical consultation with you in order to be able to assess which therapy is the most promising for you. In doing so we are happy to answer all your questions and inform you about the treatment options and their risks.

On the day of the treatment it is best to come to our practice wearing a shoulder-free top. You should shave your underarms for the last time 5 days before the treatment. The underarms are treated one after the other. The entire visit to the doctor generally takes 60 minutes. The actual treatment lasts approx. 40 minutes. At the beginning a trained member of staff will temporarily apply markings to the area of skin to be treated in order to guide the treatment. The skin is then disinfected and anaesthetised with a local anaesthetic.

We begin to place the miraDry handpiece section by section on the marked areas. Each time the skin is drawn in slightly and thus stabilised for the supply of energy.

Microwaves then penetrate the tissue in a targeted way. A short but intense heat is produced, which destroys the sweat glands together with their supplying nerves. At the same time a continuous cooling system protects the skin layer and limits the heat to the area of the sweat glands. You will therefore not have any pain during the treatment.

As sweat glands that have once been destroyed do not regenerate, the results of miraDry are lasting.

After the treatment the markings are removed and the underarms are cooled with cooling packs. Most patients feel a clear reduction of the sweat shortly after the session.

Possible side effects can be temporary redness, bruising, tenderness to pressure, swelling or a slight feeling of numbness in the fingers. Should these reactions occur in your case, they subside again by themselves after a short time. You can resume your work immediately after the visit to the doctor and can also do sport again after a few days.
