Skin seeing red:

Redness & thread veins

Redness and thread veins, especially on the face, are among the most frequent skin conditions in adulthood – and also among the most unpleasant. They are often described as rosacea or couperose and are readily confused.

In our dermatological consultation we analyse your skin and show you ways to a successful treatment.

Rosacea

The skin disease rosacea is an inflammatory, chronic condition of the facial skin. It proceeds in episodes. It begins with dilated blood vessels and redness on the cheeks, nose, forehead and chin. In a second phase inflammation arises and small red nodules form, at times also small pustular nodules. In a third phase the skin is already severely inflamed, thickened and very large-pored. In men in particular, proliferation of the sebaceous glands leads to the formation of a so-called bulbous nose.

Not all patients go through all three phases. Many stop at the second stage. Incidentally, women are affected more often than men, and fair-skinned people more often than dark-skinned people. An accompanying condition or consequence of rosacea is couperose.

Couperose

With couperose fine veins usually shimmer bluish-red through the skin. This occurs mostly on the face and is immediately visible. Couperose shows most clearly on the cheeks and around the nose.

Treatment

Following a detailed medical analysis by our specialists in dermatology, a suitable therapy is carried out. With special active ingredients, inflammation is first contained and the skin is calmed. Particularly troublesome thread veins can be removed with an IPL flash lamp therapy. All therapies are pre-treated and post-treated with special, medical creams.

Red IPL

IPL treatment on the face at the Kuzbari Centre Vienna

With the help of IPL, thread veins are treated successfully. The flash of light is directed into the blood vessels that are to be treated. Blood contains haemoglobin, which absorbs the light and converts it into heat. As a result the small veins are destroyed and gradually disappear in a safe manner. Read more
