• Cosmetics: with products that are not available on prescription the possibilities are more limited, since they are ‘cosmetics’ and are therefore not allowed to introduce active substances into the deep skin in high concentrations at all. • Creams containing hyaluronic acid are mostly based on small particles of hyaluronic acid which penetrate the epidermis, attract water and thus cause the uppermost layers of skin to swell. • Tablets containing hyaluronic acid are digested in the gastrointestinal tract, so that the hyaluronic acid cannot reach the skin.
