CoolSculpting: reducing fat deposits precisely, without surgery
It sounds almost too good to be true: reducing fat deposits permanently, without surgery, without scars, without downtime. We thought so too. Because we test new methods for effectiveness and safety before we offer them, we examined fat reduction by cooling closely and tested several devices. With CoolSculpting we changed our minds: it works.
- Around 35 minutes per cycle
- No anaesthesia, no incision
- Back to daily life at once
- Around 25 % less fat per treatment
In the consultation we examine your fat deposits and tell you honestly what cooling can achieve. The appointment is without obligation.
What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is a treatment in which fat cells beneath the skin are cooled in a controlled way until they die; the body then breaks them down naturally over a number of weeks. The medical term for the method is cryolipolysis, and it needs no scalpel, no injection and no anaesthesia.
CoolSculpting is intended for fat deposits that remain despite a balanced diet and exercise, for example on the abdomen, the flanks, the thighs or the upper arms. It is a method of body contouring, not a method of losing weight. In the treated area the fat layer becomes around 25 per cent thinner per treatment.
The Kuzbari Centre was one of the first users of this technology in Austria. Because we offer every route from CoolSculpting through liposuction to body lifting, we recommend the one that suits your findings and promise only what we can deliver.

How cooling works
CoolSculpting acts specifically on fat cells because fat cells are more sensitive to cold than skin, nerves and muscle. The fat deposit is drawn into an applicator by gentle suction and brought step by step to about 3 °C by cooling plates. At this temperature only the fat cells are damaged; the surrounding tissue remains unharmed.
From suction to removal
The first few minutes feel like pressure and intense cold; the sensation fades quickly as the area becomes numb. Many patients read, work on a laptop or simply close their eyes during this time.
Over the following weeks and months the immune system gradually breaks down the damaged fat cells. What has been removed does not come back.
- Diet-resistant fat deposits
Fat deposits on the abdomen, waist, thighs or upper arms that resist every diet and every workout.
- Cooling to about 3 °C
The deposit is drawn into the applicator and gradually cooled by the cooling modules.
- Selective and safe
The temperature is chosen so that only fat cells are affected; the skin and surrounding tissue are not harmed.
- Natural removal
The immune system breaks down the damaged fat cells step by step.
- A thinner layer of fat
Around 25 per cent of the fat cells in the area have gone. You notice it in how your trousers fit, in your belt and in the mirror.
Which areas can be treated
CoolSculpting is suitable for any area where a fat deposit can be held by the applicator. There are dedicated applicators for the different areas.
Who CoolSculpting suits
CoolSculpting works best for people who are close to their ideal weight and want to lose individual, easily graspable fat deposits.
- You are less than about 11 kilograms from your ideal weight.
- You have firm, localised fat deposits that remain despite diet and exercise.
- You expect a visibly slimmer contour, not weight loss.
- You are patient: the result develops over two to four months.
CoolSculpting or liposuction?
CoolSculpting is the gentler choice for smaller, clearly defined deposits; liposuction removes considerably more fat in one session and shapes the contour more precisely. We offer both under one roof, so we can advise you without reservation.
| Feature | CoolSculpting | Liposuction |
|---|---|---|
| Procedure | No incision, outpatient | Operation through small access points |
| Anaesthesia | None | Yes, depending on findings |
| Amount of fat | Around 25 % per treatment in the area | Considerably more in one session |
| Sessions | One or several | Usually one |
| Downtime | None | A few days, compression garments |
| Result visible | After two to four months | Once the swelling has subsided |
| Cost | €370 – 550 per cycle | e.g. abdomen €4,600 – 7,900 |

The new generation of applicators
Further development of the applicators has shortened the treatment: instead of flat cooling plates, three-dimensional cooling surrounds the tissue more precisely. A larger area is treated more evenly, and the applicator needs less suction, which feels more comfortable.
All CoolSculpting applicators are available at the Kuzbari Centre, from the large CoolAdvantage Plus to the flexible CoolSmooth Pro for the outer thighs.
- A larger treatment area per cycle
- A more even result thanks to three-dimensional cooling
- More comfortable thanks to lower suction
- Shorter treatment time

The results of CoolSculpting are permanent: fat cells that have been broken down do not return. A balanced diet and exercise help the new contour to last.

The basis: research in Boston
Fat reduction by cooling was developed at the Wellman Center for Photomedicine of Massachusetts General Hospital, a teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School. Dermatologists there discovered that fat cells are more sensitive to cold than the surrounding tissue.
Once the basic research was completed in 2005, the company ZELTIQ was founded to prove the effectiveness clinically and turn the method into a device. The US Food and Drug Administration approved CoolSculpting in 2010; in the EU it is a Class IIa medical device.

Frequently asked questions about CoolSculpting
What is CoolSculpting?
CoolSculpting is a treatment for reducing fat without surgery. Fat cells are cooled in a controlled way, die and are broken down by the body over several weeks. The underlying medical method is called cryolipolysis.
How much fat do I lose with one treatment?
One treatment reduces the fat layer in the treated area by around 25 per cent. If a stronger effect is wanted, the treatment can be repeated.
Does CoolSculpting hurt?
In the first few minutes you feel pressure and intense cold, which soon fades. After that the treatment is easy to tolerate; overall the discomfort is described as slight.
How long does a treatment take?
With the current applicators one cycle takes around 35 minutes in most cases. How many cycles are needed depends on the area and the size of the fat deposit.
When will I see the result?
The first changes appear after three to four weeks. Because the body continues to break down the fat cells for up to four months, the result is clearest after two to four months.
Is the result permanent?
Yes. Fat cells that have been broken down do not return. With a considerably higher calorie intake, however, the remaining fat cells can grow again, so a healthy lifestyle pays off.
Am I restricted after the treatment?
No. You can work and exercise straight away and need no compression garments. Swelling, redness, mild bruising, tingling or numbness may occur temporarily.
Who is CoolSculpting not suitable for?
For people with marked excess weight, for skin that needs tightening, during pregnancy and breastfeeding, and with cryoglobulinaemia or Raynaud’s syndrome. In that case we discuss other routes with you.
What does CoolSculpting cost?
One cycle costs €370 to €550. The total price depends on the area and the number of cycles and is fixed after the first consultation. Payment in instalments is possible through Kuzbari Finance.
Can a double chin be treated with CoolSculpting?
At the Kuzbari Centre we usually treat a double chin with liposuction of the neck, because the jawline can be shaped very well this way.
