After breast surgery: healing, check-ups and everyday life
After a breast augmentation you are usually back in company within a few days, wear a compression bra for three weeks and can exercise again after four to six weeks. The first check-up is two weeks after the operation; all check-ups are included.
- Bra: 2 weeks day and night
- First check-up after 14 days
- Sport after 4 to 6 weeks
- All check-ups included
Straight after surgery
After surgery you are closely monitored in the recovery room for about an hour and then taken to your room. The nurses provide food and medication. The next morning Dr. Dobrovits or Dr. Draxler holds the follow-up talk, opens the bra and gives you a checklist for the coming days and painkillers.
Most patients stay one night at the Kuzbari Centre — more than 90 per cent take up this option. It is not always essential, but it is the safe choice.
What happens after surgery
Can I stay overnight?
Yes. Alongside round-the-clock medical care, dinner and breakfast from the Park Hyatt Vienna await you. Dr. Dobrovits explains in the video when it is possible to go home the same day.

Downtime: move, but in moderation
Moving after breast surgery is good and encouraged — in moderation. Some patients are back at their desks after two days, but you should take the first four to six days easy. Until the end of the second week, lift no more than five kilograms; a baby from the third week, older children after four weeks.
- Wear the compression bra day and night for two weeks, then at night for one more week.
- Take a short shower the day after surgery — three to four minutes.
- Bathing and swimming in fresh water after four weeks, in salt or chlorinated water after six.
- Touch your breasts normally again after two to three weeks, as feels comfortable.
- Take painkillers exactly as explained to you at the follow-up talk.
Pain after breast surgery
A breast augmentation usually feels like severe muscle soreness, especially if the implant lies beneath the pectoral muscle. As long as you lie still it does not hurt; changing position and touching are uncomfortable. How painful it is depends on the type of operation and on your own sensitivity to pain.
Caring for your scars
The scar is kept as small as possible and placed where it cannot be seen — for example in the breast fold or at the edge of the areola. After nine to twelve months it is usually barely visible. With Dr. Draxler’s tips it will not bother you.
The check-ups
At the Kuzbari Centre we are there for you not only before and during the operation but also afterwards: all check-ups are included. The first usually takes place 14 days after surgery — with the surgeon who operated on you.
- Follow-up talk and discharge
Ward round, first look at your new breasts, checklist and painkillers.
- First check-up
Wound check; from now on the bra is worn only at night.
- Back to sport
Endurance sport after four weeks, strength training after six.
- The final result
Swelling subsides, scars fade and the shape settles.
What patients say after their breast surgery
When I got home after the operation I cried with joy. I could not have imagined a better result. My heartfelt thanks to Dr. Dobrovits and his team, who managed to make me fall in love with myself again.
