Functional-aesthetic rhinoplasty
Why only sleep quietly when you can also sleep beautifully? Many people suffer from breathing problems that weigh on everyday life — from snoring at night to chronic exhaustion through restless sleep. At the same time many wish for a more harmonious shape of the nose. At the Kuzbari Centre we combine the two in a single procedure.
- Breathing and form in one procedure
- One anaesthetic, one healing phase
- Operation 1 to 4 hours
- 3D simulation beforehand
In this way we achieve not only a better quality of life but also a natural, aesthetically pleasing result. On this page you can read what that means, which breathing problems can be treated and why combining function and form is so often the more sensible solution.

What is a functional-aesthetic rhinoplasty?
A functional-aesthetic rhinoplasty, also called a rhinoseptoplasty, is an operation that treats the medical and the shaping aspects of the nose at the same time. On the functional side it is about improving nasal breathing, which can be impaired by anatomical problems. On the aesthetic side the outer shape is adjusted — by reducing a hump, refining the nasal tip or adapting the width of the nose.
At the Kuzbari Centre these procedures are carried out by Univ. Doz. Dr. Rafic Kuzbari, Dr. Christoph Grill and DDr. Jessica Wittmann. Thanks to our Vectra 3D simulation you can see what your new nose will look like before the operation. That makes precise planning and an individual result possible.
Common breathing problems and their surgical treatment
Many breathing disorders arise from structural problems in the nose that obstruct the flow of air. These can be congenital, arise through injuries or develop over time. At the Kuzbari Centre we treat such complaints surgically in order to restore free breathing.

Inside and outside are connected
The septum is not merely a dividing wall between the two halves of the nose but the central pillar of the whole nose. If it is deviated, the outer nose is usually crooked as well. Straightening only the outside without treating the pillar risks the nose returning to its old position over time.
Conversely, the septum supplies the cartilage from which the supports for the nasal valve and the tip are made. Function and form therefore literally draw on the same material.
These functional corrections can improve quality of life considerably: fewer headaches, better sleep, more energy in everyday life and less susceptibility to colds. At the Kuzbari Centre the procedures are carried out as inpatient operations with one overnight stay — including the Kuzbari Safety Check and quality guarantee.

Why correct function and form at the same time?
It is not only possible but often sensible to combine functional and aesthetic corrections in one procedure. The reason lies in the anatomy: the nose is a connected framework in which the inner structures are directly linked to the outer shape. A purely functional operation can change the shape, and a purely shaping operation can affect breathing — in both directions.
| Feature | Combined in one procedure | Separately, one after the other |
|---|---|---|
| Anaesthetics | One | Two |
| Healing phases | One, with one period off | Two, with two periods off |
| The tissue | Unscarred, the structures are freely accessible | Scarred at the second procedure, making the work more demanding |
| The cartilage reserve | The septum supplies cartilage for function and form at once | If cartilage is used up at the first procedure, it is missing later |
| The coordination | Form and function are matched to one another in a single plan | The result of the first procedure limits the options of the second |
The cartilage reserve is the argument most often underestimated. The septum supplies the material for spreader grafts, supports and fine corrections. If it is entirely used up in a first procedure, cartilage has to be taken from the ear or from a rib in any later one. This is precisely why we plan both together from the start — and talk about it in the initial consultation, even if you came only because of the shape.
How we work technically
The nasal bridge stays where it is
We work a great deal with the modern nose-bridge-preserving technique, known as dorsal preservation, as well as with hybrid techniques — not exclusively with the traditional structural septorhinoplasty. The natural nasal bridge is preserved instead of being removed and rebuilt.
This has three advantages: the result looks particularly natural, it is stable in the long term, and the risk of later irregularities on the nasal bridge is reduced — which matters above all with thin skin, because there every tiny edge becomes visible. Certain deviations also recur less often. With the functional-aesthetic correction of a crooked nose in particular this is an argument, because the septum and the outer axis are aligned together.
The nasal tip is supported, not just shaped
We stabilise the nasal tip using modern cartilage-supported techniques. This considerably reduces the risk of drooping of the nasal tip over the years. In the combined operation this has a double benefit: the same cartilage struts that hold the tip also support the nasal valve and so keep the airway open.
The piezotome for work on the bone
If work on the bone is required, the piezotome is used, an ultrasound instrument that cuts and smooths bone while leaving soft tissue, mucous membrane and blood vessels untouched. For patients this means more precise work on the bone and, as a rule, fewer bruises and less swelling in the days afterwards. It is not a rhinoplasty method in its own right but a tool for one step. We use it as standard in every nasal operation.
The 3D simulation from three perspectives
Our 3D simulation shows your future nose not only in profile but also from the front and from below. You therefore see your possible result from exactly the angles from which others see you every day — and before the operation we talk about the same picture. More about the 3D simulation
The procedure, step by step
Consultation, preparation, operation, inpatient care and aftercare all take place in the same building.
- Initial consultation with 3D simulation
We listen, examine the nose from the outside and from the inside and check nasal breathing. We assess the septum, the turbinates, the nasal valves, the bridge, the tip and the thickness of the skin. Afterwards you know what is functionally necessary and what is aesthetically possible.
- Informed consent and preparation
The consent discussion, your medical history and laboratory values, the anaesthetic preparation via the pre-anaesthesia clinic in the building and the medicines that have to be discontinued.
- The operation
The operation takes place in the centre's own operating theatres, under general anaesthesia. Depending on the scope, it takes one to four hours. Because the operating theatres belong to us, we operate without time pressure — for as long as it takes for the result to be right. How long a procedure takes is decided by the findings, not by the appointment schedule.
- Inpatient in the building
After the recovery room you spend one night in a patient room of your own. The nursing staff is there around the clock. Nasal packing is not necessary.
- Follow-up talk and discharge
Examination and discussion of the course of events in your room. You can leave the Kuzbari Centre before 10 a.m. For times outside consulting hours you are given your surgeon's number.
- Splint, swelling, mucous membrane
The splint stays on for around ten days. The swelling increases over the first two to three days and then recedes. Most people are fit for work after three to seven days and fit to socialise after one to three weeks; sport is possible after four to six weeks. Nasal rinses keep the mucous membrane moist.
- Shape and breathing settle in
The fine shape emerges over months; the final result shows itself after six to twelve months. The full effect on breathing also becomes apparent only once the swelling has completely subsided. All check-up appointments are included.
What happens in the initial consultation
A nasal operation has to run precisely, and that begins long before the day of surgery. This is why we take over an hour for you as early as the initial consultation.
- We get to know one another and we listen to you.
- We examine the nose from the outside and from the inside and check nasal breathing side by side.
- Using Vectra 3D technology we produce a three-dimensional simulation of your current nose and your possible future nose.
- We show you before-and-after photographs of comparable noses.
- We explain which part of the procedure is functionally and which aesthetically justified.
- We give you the time you need. We will never try to push anyone into an operation.

Everything under one roof
The Kuzbari Centre has its own operating theatres, equipped for rhinoplasty — and therefore the luxury of free scheduling. Our well-rehearsed team of doctors, anaesthetists and practice assistants works exclusively in aesthetic medicine.

To the profileCosts
The price depends on the effort involved. A combined operation in one procedure is usually less expensive than two separate ones, because anaesthesia, operating theatre and stay are incurred only once. After the examination you receive a written cost estimate.

An initial consultation with three-dimensional simulation, a technique that suits your nose, and an operating time determined by the findings — this effort is the reason why a rhinoplasty has its price here. It is also the reason why the result is meant to last: a lifetime, not a few years.
The costs can be spread over up to five years through Kuzbari Finance, at an annual percentage rate of 9.99 %.
Frequently asked questions about functional-aesthetic rhinoplasty
What is a functional-aesthetic rhinoplasty?
An operation that improves nasal breathing and adjusts the outer shape in one procedure. Technically it is called a rhinoseptoplasty. On the functional side it concerns the septum, the turbinates and the nasal valves; on the aesthetic side the bridge, the tip, the width or the length of the nose.
Why is it worth doing both together?
Because it needs only one anaesthetic, one healing phase and one period off — and because the tissue is unscarred at the first procedure. In addition there is the cartilage reserve: the septum supplies the material for supports and fine corrections. If it is used up in a first procedure, it is missing later.
I am really only here because of the shape. Do I have to have my breathing treated as well?
You do not have to, but we examine the nose from the inside in any case. If it turns out that breathing is restricted, we say so openly and tell you what treating it would mean for the scope, the duration and the cost estimate. The decision is yours.
What is the nose-bridge-preserving technique?
With the nose-bridge-preserving technique, known as dorsal preservation, the natural nasal bridge is preserved instead of being removed and rebuilt. We work a great deal with this modern technique as well as with hybrid techniques, not exclusively with the traditional structural septorhinoplasty. The result looks particularly natural, it is stable in the long term, and the risk of later irregularities on the nasal bridge is reduced. Certain deviations also recur less often.
Will the nasal tip droop again later?
We stabilise the nasal tip using modern cartilage-supported techniques. This considerably reduces the risk of drooping of the nasal tip over the years. The same cartilage struts frequently support the nasal valve as well and so keep the airway open.
Does the combined operation take longer?
It takes longer than a septal correction alone, but less time than two separate procedures together. A rhinoplasty here takes one to four hours. That range is deliberate: we operate in our own operating theatres and therefore without time pressure — for as long as it takes for every detail to be right.
Do I need nasal packing?
No. At the Kuzbari Centre nasal packing is not necessary. After the operation you wear a nasal splint or a nasal plaster for around ten days.
How long will I be out of action?
Most people are fit for work after three to seven days and fit to socialise after one to three weeks. Sport is possible again after four to six weeks. The final result shows itself after six to twelve months.
When will I be able to breathe freely again?
Expect not to breathe freely through your nose for some weeks — that is due to the swelling of the mucous membrane. The full effect shows itself once the swelling has subsided.
Do you involve an ENT specialist?
Whenever your condition calls for it, for instance with chronic inflammation of the sinuses, with polyps or where an allergy is suspected. We then coordinate and draw up a treatment plan together.
Are there any scars?
With the closed technique all incisions lie inside the nose. With the open technique a small incision on the columella is added; the resulting scar is barely visible later. Which technique makes sense depends on the findings.
How much does a functional-aesthetic rhinoplasty cost?
A rhinoplasty starts at 9,350 euros, everything included. The price depends on the effort involved. For a previously operated nose it is from 9,950 euros, from 10,900 euros or from 11,900 euros, depending on complexity. After the examination you receive a written cost estimate.
