Nose reduction
Do you experience your nose as too large or too dominant in relation to your face? Perhaps it looks too wide, too long or too voluminous. A nose reduction can correct this imbalance and bring your face into a harmonious equilibrium.
- Length, width, volume
- Nose-bridge-preserving technique
- Operation 1 to 4 hours
- 3D simulation beforehand
At the Kuzbari Centre we understand that the size and shape of the nose have a great influence on your appearance. That is why we rely on individual solutions that underline your natural beauty without looking artificial.
Our patients come to us with different concerns: some want to reduce the overall size of their nose, others wish for a refinement of particular areas such as the width or the length. What they have in common is the wish for a natural, proportionate result that complements their personality.

Nasal surgery is one of our focal points
At the Kuzbari Centre, Dr. Christoph Grill and DDr. Jessica Wittmann work exclusively on facial surgery; alongside them is Univ. Doz. Dr. Rafic Kuzbari, the founder of the centre. This specialisation matters particularly for rhinoplasty: it calls for the highest degree of precision and years of experience, since aesthetics and function have to be brought into harmony in a single operation.
From the initial consultation with 3D simulation through the operation in our own operating theatres to the aftercare, we look after everything so that your nose reduction is safe, precise and as pleasant as possible.
Why a nose reduction?
The size and shape of the nose decisively shape the appearance of your face. A nose that is experienced as too large can disturb facial harmony. A nose reduction makes it possible to adapt the nose proportionally — whether by reducing its width, its length or its volume — in order to create a balanced, aesthetic profile. At the Kuzbari Centre we rely on subtle changes that bring out your natural beauty without the result looking unnatural.
"Too large" is almost never a question of absolute centimetres but of proportion. A nose can be objectively small and still appear dominant because the chin or the cheeks offer little counterweight. Conversely, a strong face carries a more substantial nose without difficulty. This is why we do not measure the nose alone but the relationship of forehead, nose, lips and chin to one another.

Surgeons: Univ. Doz. Dr. Rafic Kuzbari, Dr. Christoph Grill, DDr. Jessica Wittmann. Special features: 3D simulation from three perspectives, our own operating theatres, the piezotome in every nasal operation.
How we proceed
Reducing a nose is not the same as taking tissue away. If material is only removed, the nose loses its support; over the following years it can distort, the tip can sink, the bridge can become irregular. A reduction is therefore always a rebuild as well: what is taken away in one place has to be held in another.
The nasal bridge stays where it is
We work a great deal with the modern nose-bridge-preserving technique, known as dorsal preservation, as well as with hybrid techniques — not exclusively with the traditional structural septorhinoplasty. The natural nasal bridge is preserved instead of being removed and rebuilt.
This has three advantages: the result looks particularly natural, it is stable in the long term, and the risk of later irregularities on the nasal bridge is reduced — which matters above all with thin skin, because there every tiny edge becomes visible. Certain deviations also recur less often. The nose-bridge-preserving technique is not generally superior, but for many findings it is the gentler choice.
The nasal tip is supported
With a reduction in particular, the tip is the sensitive point: when the nose is shortened, the tip loses part of its suspension. We therefore stabilise the nasal tip using modern cartilage-supported techniques. This considerably reduces the risk of drooping of the nasal tip over the years.
The bone is worked on with ultrasound
If the bony part has to be narrowed, the piezotome is used, an ultrasound instrument that cuts and smooths bone while leaving soft tissue, mucous membrane and blood vessels untouched. For patients this means more precise work on the bone and, as a rule, fewer bruises and less swelling in the days afterwards. The piezotome is not a rhinoplasty method in its own right but a tool for one step. We use it as standard in every nasal operation.
Where the limits lie
A nose cannot be reduced without limit. Three things set the boundary, and we address them in the initial consultation before you decide.
| Factor | Why it matters | What follows from it |
|---|---|---|
| Skin thickness | The skin does not shrink without limit. Thick skin settles onto a reduced framework more slowly and less finely. | With thick skin a moderate reduction gives a better result than a radical one. |
| Breathing | Every narrowing narrows the air passage. The framework has to keep the airways open. | Where necessary, stabilisation is carried out in the same procedure, for instance with spreader grafts. |
| Facial proportion | A very small nose in a strong face does not look delicate but out of place. | The right measure follows from the whole face, not from a wished-for image. |
The 3D simulation is the most honest tool here: it shows how far a reduction can go within the limits of your anatomy — and where the result would tip over.

The course of your nose reduction
Consultation, preparation, operation and aftercare all take place in the Seitzergasse, with the same people.
- Initial consultation: we take our time for you
A nose reduction is a highly precise procedure that requires careful planning. This is why we take over an hour in the initial consultation to understand your wishes and needs exactly. This conversation is the first step towards your new, proportionate nose.
- Preparation: everything for your safety
Medical examinations, laboratory values and a check of nasal function so that breathing is not impaired. In addition the discussion with the anaesthetist and a detailed surgical plan based on the 3D simulation.
- The operation: in safe hands
Before the operation your surgeon and the anaesthetist come to your room. The operation takes one to four hours. Because the operating theatres belong to us, we operate without time pressure — for as long as it takes for the result to be right. How long a procedure takes is decided by the findings, not by the appointment schedule.
- Recovery room and patient room
Immediately after the operation we look in on you in the recovery room. You wear a nasal splint or plaster. Afterwards you spend one night in a patient room of your own; the nursing staff is there around the clock. Nasal packing is not necessary.
- Follow-up talk and discharge
The next morning Dr. Grill or DDr. Wittmann holds a detailed follow-up talk with you, examines your nose and discusses how things went. You can leave our centre before 10 a.m.
- The course of healing
Swelling and discolouration reach their peak after two to three days and then subside. We remove the splint after about ten days. You are fit for work after three to seven days and fit to socialise after one to three weeks.
- The fine shape
The nose changes over months. With a reduction in particular the skin needs time to settle onto the smaller framework. The final result shows itself after six to twelve months. All check-up appointments are included.

What happens in the initial consultation
- Getting to know one another: we listen in order to understand your goals — whether reducing the size, the width or the length of the nose — and your concerns.
- Detailed analysis: together with Dr. Grill or DDr. Wittmann we analyse your facial features and the anatomy of your nose, including size, proportions and structure.
- A check of nasal breathing from the inside, because every narrowing changes the air passage.
- 3D simulation with Vectra technology: we scan your nose and create a simulation of your possible new, reduced nose — in profile, from the front and from below.
- Before-and-after comparisons: we show you photographs of patients with similar starting points who have been operated on.
- Explanation of the procedure: we explain step by step how your nose reduction will proceed and answer all questions about technique, healing and costs.
- Time for your decision: we will never push you into an operation.

How much smaller is enough?
Our 3D simulation shows your future nose not only in profile but also from the front and from below. You therefore see your possible result from exactly the angles from which others see you every day — and before the operation we talk about the same picture.
With a reduction that is the single most important question. On the model it is possible to try out how far the change should go — and from what point it would be too much.

Before-and-after photographs show what was possible with one particular starting point. They do not show what is possible for you — that requires an examination.

To the profileCosts
The costs depend on the scope of the procedure. A reduction usually concerns several areas of the nose at once — root, bridge, tip and often the septum — and is therefore more demanding than a single detail correction. After the examination you receive a written cost estimate.

An initial consultation with three-dimensional simulation, a technique that suits your nose, and an operating time determined by the findings — this effort is the reason why a rhinoplasty has its price here. It is also the reason why the result is meant to last: a lifetime, not a few years.
The costs can be spread over up to five years through Kuzbari Finance, at an annual percentage rate of 9.99 %.
Frequently asked questions about nose reduction
How much smaller can my nose become?
That depends on three things: on the thickness of your skin, on your breathing and on the proportions of your face. Thick skin settles less finely onto a reduced framework, every narrowing narrows the air passage, and a very small nose in a strong face looks out of place rather than delicate. How far a reduction can go is shown by the 3D simulation within the limits of your anatomy.
Is a nose reduction painful?
The operation is carried out under general anaesthesia and is therefore painless. Afterwards the discomfort is usually easy to control; most people report a feeling of pressure or tension rather than severe pain.
Does breathing get worse when the nose becomes smaller?
Not if the framework is taken into account. Every narrowing changes the air passage, which is why we check nasal breathing from the inside before the operation. Where necessary, stabilisation is carried out in the same procedure, for instance with spreader grafts, or a deviated septum is treated at the same time.
What is the nose-bridge-preserving technique?
With the nose-bridge-preserving technique, known as dorsal preservation, the natural nasal bridge is preserved instead of being removed and rebuilt. We work a great deal with this modern technique as well as with hybrid techniques, not exclusively with the traditional structural septorhinoplasty. The result looks particularly natural, it is stable in the long term, and the risk of later irregularities on the nasal bridge is reduced.
Does the nasal tip droop after a reduction?
We stabilise the nasal tip using modern cartilage-supported techniques. This considerably reduces the risk of drooping of the nasal tip over the years. With a reduction this matters particularly, because shortening costs the tip part of its suspension.
Are there any scars?
With the closed technique all incisions lie inside the nose. With the open technique a small incision on the columella is added; the resulting scar is barely visible later. If the nostrils are narrowed as well, fine scars at their base are added.
How long does healing take?
Most people are fit for work after three to seven days and fit to socialise after one to three weeks. After four to six weeks you can resume sport. The final result is visible after six to twelve months, with thick skin occasionally later.
Do I need nasal packing?
No. At the Kuzbari Centre nasal packing is not necessary. After the operation you wear a nasal splint or a nasal plaster for around ten days.
Do I have to stay overnight?
Yes. A nose reduction is carried out under general anaesthesia; afterwards you spend one night in a patient room of your own and can go home the next morning before 10 a.m.
How much does a nose reduction cost?
A rhinoplasty starts at 9,350 euros, everything included. The costs depend on the scope of the procedure. For a previously operated nose the price is from 9,950 euros, from 10,900 euros or from 11,900 euros, depending on complexity. After the examination you receive a written cost estimate.
Is the result permanent?
The result is stable in the long term. The nose-bridge-preserving technique and the cartilage-supported stabilisation of the tip are designed precisely for that. Slight changes through ageing are possible but hardly affect the result.
Can this be done without surgery?
No. Fillers can add volume, not take it away. Making a nose smaller is only possible surgically. For small unevennesses a filler treatment can nevertheless make sense in selected cases; we clarify that openly in the consultation.
