The answers in brief

When can I shower after a breast augmentation?

On the day after surgery, briefly — three to four minutes.

How long does a breast augmentation take?

Usually about an hour — and as long as it takes to get the result right.

Should I be afraid of the anaesthetic?

The fear is understandable, but the risk of a serious complication is around 1 in 1,000,000. Specialist anaesthetists monitor you continuously.

Do you use the internal bra technique for breast lifts?

Yes, every breast lift involves work on the breast tissue beneath the skin so that the result lasts. Removing skin alone is usually not enough.

Which bra do I wear after breast surgery?

Depending on the operation, a bra for three to six weeks; after a breast augmentation usually two weeks day and night and one more week at night.

From what age is a breast augmentation possible?

You must be of legal age; in Austria the Ästhetik-OP Gesetz (Aesthetic Surgery Act) sets out the requirements precisely.

Does a breast augmentation still make sense at 50?

Yes. Up to a certain point age plays no role; many women only decide then.

Does the pill make the breasts grow?

It can make the breasts larger, but does not have to.

What should sporty women bear in mind?

Slim, sporty women often cannot choose the implant position freely — their anatomy decides.

Are large breasts and a natural look a contradiction?

No. Size and a natural look are not mutually exclusive when implant and anatomy match.

The answers on video

Showering after the breast augmentation

A question rightly asked frequently concerns the subject of personal hygiene after the breast augmentation: from when may I shower again? How long may I shower? What do I have to observe while doing so?

How long does a breast augmentation take?

Some patients ask in the consultation how long the breast surgery will take. The answer is simple and pragmatic; see the following video with Dr. Andreas Dobrovits.

Breast surgery: afraid of the anaesthetic?

Many patients are afraid of the anaesthetic and this fear can of course be understood in so far as this is not an everyday situation for the patient.

Breast lift with an internal bra?

When a breast droops, it usually has to be lifted. Patients keep asking me whether I use the technique of the "internal bra". With breast lifts there are various techniques and as a rule it is not enough merely to remove skin, because then the breast will usually soon droop again. It is therefore necessary to work on the breast tissue beneath the skin - and yes, of course we do that - with every breast lift in fact, since after all we want a long-lasting and optimal result for our patients.

The perfect breast shape: round or anatomical? Which implant is the right one?

Round or transversely oval, 200ml or 300ml, ...? In this video Dr. René Draxler explains which different implant shapes and sizes there are, why not every implant is suitable for every patient and how we find the right implant for you.

After the breast augmentation: what is forbidden?

Planning breast surgery of course involves not only the "before", from 3D simulation through the choice of the right implant to the operation, but of course also the time afterwards.

Which bra after breast surgery?

After every breast operation a bra usually has to be worn for 3-6 weeks. Among other things this depends on the exact operation.

Up to what age does the breast grow?

The hope that the breast would still grow naturally often persists even after the end of the growth phase. Here women are usually disappointed; nevertheless the question of up to what age the breast actually grows cannot be answered so easily.

Breast augmentation: from what age?

How old does one have to be for a breast augmentation? In Austria this is regulated relatively precisely by the Ästhetik-OP Gesetz (Austrian Aesthetic Surgery Act). This means there are very clear guidelines here.

The pill & breast growth

Women often hope when taking the pill that this will enlarge their breast. In principle it has to be said that taking the pill can make the breast bigger, but does not have to.

Breast surgery & fitness

What has to be observed with fitness-conscious women before a breast operation? In principle it can be said that fitness-conscious women are usually rather slim. Slim women have the ‘disadvantage’ that unfortunately they cannot choose the implant position.

Breast augmentation at 50

A breast augmentation is no problem whatsoever at 50+ as well. Up to a certain point age actually plays no role here. There are even a great many women who only decide on a breast operation at this age.

Breast shape – what is the perfect breast shape?

When it comes to the question of breast shape, the subject of malformations of the breast plays an important role above all. The boundaries between normal and malformed are, however, blurred.

Breast surgery & a natural look

Can one have a breast operation with a natural look? The question is to be answered quite clearly with a ‘yes’. One keeps hearing that size and naturalness are in contradiction with one another. But that is absolutely not the case.

Breast augmentation: pain

How severe is the pain after a breast augmentation and how long does it last? The answer to this question cannot be given unambiguously, because patients' perception of pain is as different as the patients themselves.
