How the upper arms are treated
Liposuction of the upper arms removes fat cells that do not respond to diet and training through access points just a few millimetres in size, permanently, because the body no longer forms new fat cells after puberty.
First a tumescent solution is introduced, which numbs the tissue and keeps bleeding to a minimum. Fine cannulas then loosen the fat and remove it, all round the upper arms. If there is also a pad of fat where the armpit meets the chest (axillary extensions), it can be treated too. With slight excess skin, Renuvion tightens the skin in suitable cases without an additional incision, through the liposuction access points. VASER and Renuvion are included in the price.

Arm lift: when skin remains
If the problem is fat, liposuction is enough; if the skin on the inside of the upper arms hangs, even when the arm is tensed, an arm lift is needed.
In an arm lift, excess skin is removed through an incision in the armpit or on the inside of the upper arm, and the remaining skin is laid smoothly against the contour of the arm. Common reasons are weight loss, including with weight-loss injections, age or an inherited weakness of the connective tissue. The scar is placed so that it is visible neither from the front nor from behind when the arms are at your sides. In the video, a patient of Dr. Ali Saalabian talks about her path to an arm lift.

Arm lift with liposuction
If there are also fat deposits on the back of the arms, the procedure begins with gentle VASER liposuction; only then is the excess skin removed. This lets the skin settle better onto the muscles, and the transitions to the shoulder and elbow look more natural. Whether this combination makes sense depends heavily on skin quality.

The process in five steps
Consultation, preparation, surgery and aftercare all take place in the same building. If you wish, surgery can usually take place just a few weeks after the consultation. In the video Dr. Saalabian explains what happens once you decide on surgery, from the pre-op talk to recovery.

- Going home and recovering
After liposuction usually home the same day, after an arm lift one night with us. Desk work after two to four days following liposuction, after about a week following a lift.
- Compression, check-ups, result
Compression garment for several weeks. Exercise from two weeks after liposuction, four to six weeks after a lift, and strain on the arms after six to eight weeks. The final result shows after three to six months.

When we advise against it
- You want to lose more than 20 kg. Liposuction is no substitute for weight loss; it shapes the areas that diet and exercise cannot reach.
- Your weight is not yet stable. If you are still planning to lose a lot of weight, we wait until your weight has been stable for months.
- Your health does not allow it. We clarify pre-existing conditions with you beforehand, together with your GP if necessary.

Frequently asked questions about liposuction of the upper arms
Does liposuction alone help with bingo wings?
Only if the skin is still very elastic. With real excess skin, liposuction alone would make the problem worse, because the envelope would be even emptier afterwards. In that case an arm lift is the right approach, often combined with liposuction.
Is liposuction of the upper arms painful?
The procedure itself is performed under twilight sedation or local anaesthesia and is painless. Afterwards the arms feel like strong muscle soreness for a few days.
Do I have to stay overnight at the Kuzbari Centre?
After liposuction usually not, as it is generally an outpatient procedure. After an arm lift you stay one night on our own ward; it is included in the price.
When can I go back to work?
After liposuction, desk work is usually possible after two to four days, and most people are socially presentable after about two days. After an arm lift, many are back in the office after about a week and socially presentable after about one to two weeks.
When can I exercise again?
After liposuction you start from two weeks, depending on the area, and build up gradually. After an arm lift, light exercise is possible after about four to six weeks; you pause sports that strain the arms for six to eight weeks.
Will there be scars?
The liposuction access points are a few millimetres in size and barely visible once healed. The scar from an arm lift lies on the inside of the upper arm or in the armpit fold and becomes noticeably less conspicuous over time with consistent care.
Will the fat come back?
The fat cells that are removed do not grow back. If you gain a lot of weight, the remaining cells can grow. With a stable weight, the shape lasts.
