When the elasticity of the lower eyelid tissue slowly decreases with age, the fat from the eye socket often bulges forward and there is an excess of skin in the area of the lower eyelid: so-called eye bags develop. In the course of a virtually risk-free lower eyelid lift these can be corrected at the Kuzbari Centre as an outpatient procedure. How eye bags develop

Our eyes, just like our hands, often give away our true age fastest. The connective tissue in the area of the eyelid, the eyelid skin and the muscle beneath it slacken over time. Through these signs of ageing the fat from the eye socket also bulges forward increasingly and eye bags develop. Eye bags therefore arise either from the bulging of the orbital fat or from an excess of skin on the lower eyelid – or from both. Depending on how pronounced they are, the eye bags often look swollen and make us appear exhausted, tired and sad. Unfortunately this impression of tiredness does not disappear even after weeks of restful holiday, and comments such as ‘Did you not get much sleep?’ are part of everyday life for those affected.

4. Eye bag operation

Often the correction of the eye bags can be carried out through an incision on the inside of the lower eyelids; then no scars at all remain. If that is not possible, a precise incision is made directly below the lower lash line. This scar fades quickly and is often virtually invisible after only a few months. The procedure itself is short and painless. During the operation you are sedated; you are conscious but are aware of little of the procedure and feel no pain whatsoever. After leaving the Kuzbari Centre you also receive painkillers from us for the following days. Most patients, however, only need them on the day of the operation.

5. The result

The result of the eyelid lift is a fresh and younger appearance. It shows itself after about 2-3 months. With the right surgical technique the natural shape of the eye is preserved. If the operation has been done well, all that should be noticed afterwards is the fresher, more radiant gaze, because there is no change of type.

And that is exactly how I felt. In the end I no longer knew whether my appearance was so sad because of the slack connective tissue or whether it was the consequence of my almost depressive mood. Virtually without scars

In some cases the lower eyelid surgery can be carried out through an access on the inside of the eyelid. Then no skin incision at all is necessary. In other cases a precisely placed incision is made just below the lashes of the lower eyelid and – depending on the extent of the slackening of the tissue – also a few millimetres beyond the outer corner of the eye. After a few months the scars are then often no longer visible at all, or can be seen only on very close inspection.

Short and painless

A procedure under sedation is no strain for you. During the procedure you are aware of little of it. You will be somewhat awake now and again, but will feel no pain. You are not completely unconscious but feel comfortable. The reason for this is that an experienced specialist in anaesthesia is there for you from the outset and will give you very strong but short-acting sedatives and painkillers before the procedure. You also receive painkillers from us to take home. Most patients, however, only take them on the day of the operation. After that they are usually no longer needed. So: anyone who is afraid of pain need not worry about a lower eyelid lift.

A little perfectionism

Since, apart from identical twins, there are no people who look exactly the same, and since the aesthetic wishes of patients differ individually, there cannot and should not be any routine operations. We plan every procedure individually and adapt the technique and the operating time to the individual needs of the patient.
