Breast augmentation: when can I wear a normal bra again?
The pressure of suffering for patients who decide on a breast augmentation is often enormous. Anticipation of the ‘afterwards’ is therefore all the greater and the question of when one will at last be able to wear the underwear of one's dreams pushes itself to the fore. But how long does one have to wear the compression bra after a breast augmentation? And when may one put on normal underwired bras again?

The function of the compression bra after a breast augmentation
At the end of a breast augmentation the last step of the operation is that we fit the patient with a compression bra with a strap. The patient wakes up with this bra, returns to her room and stays for one night on our ward, which is specially geared to plastic surgery procedures. Afterwards this special compression bra with strap should be worn day and night for a further three weeks.
The compression bra with strap holds the breast in the right shape after the operation and gives security for the time after the operation. The even pressure also supports the trouble-free healing of the breast.
What does the term ‘Stuttgart belt’ mean and what does it do?
After the breast augmentation not only a compression bra is worn, but also what is known as the ‘Stuttgart belt’. This belt, which is already integrated into the bra, lies around the chest above the female breast and prevents the swelling from moving upwards. In this way a maximally natural result with a natural breast shape can be achieved.
