Beautyfact of the month: pre-tanning on a sunbed is harmful.
What actually happens to our skin on a sunbed? Dr. Elke Janig explains it to us.

Now that it is cold outside, many people take a short break in the solarium.
Many people also do not want to miss out on escaping the grey everyday routine in winter and travelling towards the sun. There is a myth about this that you should pre-tan in the solarium beforehand so that the skin can get used to the sun again.
This is what our dermatologist Dr. Elke Janig has to say about it:
“Unfortunately, this is not only wrong, but also harmful.
Solariums use UVA light, which only chemically alters pigment precursors so that they look darker.
You cannot speak of a real suntan, because the production of additional pigment is missing.
In addition, no "light callus" develops, that is, a microscopic thickening of the horny layer that protects against UV rays.
The dangerous UVB rays that are responsible for sunburn and the development of skin cancer are not stopped by the false "solarium tan".”
Even though it lets us feel summer for a moment, a visit to the solarium is unfortunately not advisable.
