Beauty no-gos in anti-ageing - how your skin stays plump, firm and free of wrinkles for a long time

Who would not like smooth, rosy, radiant skin? Sun, stress, diet – all of this has an influence on the ageing of our body. So what should you on no account do if you want to keep your skin young for a long time?

Often we are not at all aware of the influence our everyday life has on our appearance. Our skin in particular does not readily forgive the wrong care habits when it comes to anti-ageing. So that you do not make a few of the most common mistakes, here is a list of the no-gos of care against the ageing of the skin.

Going without sun protection

We really do know it, and yet it is far too often forgotten: good sun protection is not only important for preventing skin cancer, it is also the be-all and end-all against skin ageing. It should be used every day (!), on dull days and in the shade too.

Forgetting to remove your make-up

Residues of make-up, dirt and the body’s own sebum and sweat can block the pores and prevent the skin from breathing. Removing make-up is therefore essential for a good skin appearance. The product should not dry the skin out too much; a lotion or an oil is particularly well suited to caring for it.

Sleeping too little

Shedding old flakes of skin, producing new ones, replenishing moisture stores, healing injuries and irritations, maintaining circulation and much more. Your body has a good many tasks to keep your skin beautiful. It can do that best when it is occupied with little else, that is, above all at night during sleep. You should therefore allow your body about 7-8 hours a day in order to ensure renewal and supply.

An irritating care routine

Some of us have rather dry skin, others oily skin, and others again react sensitively or need care against blemishes. Your care should therefore be matched to your needs. Very aggressive products with the wrong ingredients in particular can then do your skin more harm than good Get advice from a good dermatologist or beautician.

Drinking too little

The body needs water in order to flush waste products and toxins out of the body and to guarantee the supply of moisture to all the organs and therefore to the skin as well. A person should take in around 350ml of fluid per 10kg of body weight, that is, 2.1 litres a day at 60kg, preferably water or unsweetened teas.

Over-treating the skin

Care is good, but as so often less is often more here too. If we use too many products that are not matched to each other, they can easily irritate the skin by drying it out or stimulating excessive sebum production, blocking the pores or triggering an allergic reaction.

Letting yourself be stressed

Under stress the body releases hormones that are meant to help us be prepared for the situation. For a short time our senses are sharpened, our reserves of strength are mobilised and the whole organism is geared to ‘action’. This cannot be maintained for long, however. Anyone who is constantly stressed will soon feel tired, exhausted and ‘out of sorts’, because your body is now drawing on all its reserves. When those are no longer sufficient either, unimportant functions are scaled back in order to be able to provide more energy for other activities. Skin, hair and nails are often the first places where this becomes noticeable.

Not using a moisturiser

Just like your body, your skin needs fluid in order to stay healthy and smooth. After cleansing, your skin is sensitive and often without its acid mantle, which protects your skin from drying out and keeps environmental influences from harming it. A good moisturiser is therefore essential for your skin, particularly after hot baths and thorough cleansing.

Taking (environmental) toxins lightly

Dirt, exhaust fumes, smoking, alcohol, diet – all of these factors make themselves noticeable on your skin. Anyone who takes the time to listen to their body quickly finds out what their skin reacts sensitively to. Citrus fruits, smoky bars or the small glass of red wine bring spots and irritated skin? Try to avoid these stress factors and enjoy the positive effects on your skin appearance.
