Breast lift: when will I see the final result?

Over the years the skin loses elasticity, and with age the breast becomes slacker and begins to sag. Fluctuations in weight, pregnancy, breastfeeding etc. can contribute to this as well.

If there is enough of your own tissue and there is no wish for enlargement, a breast lift without an implant is the ideal solution for achieving the desired breast shape and, above all, position again. It takes up to 12 months, however, until you see the final result of a breast lift. In this article we explain why.

When is a breast lift advisable?

After hormonal fluctuations, pregnancies or weight loss, a woman’s breast often no longer looks the way she would wish. The breast tissue and the skin give way, so that the breast no longer looks plump and firm but slack and sagging. In general this can be the case at any age.

How a breast lift proceeds

In the course of a breast lift the tissue in the breast is redistributed – the sagging lower part is separated from the rest of the breast and moved upwards. The excess skin is then removed and the nipple is moved higher, so that the breast regains an aesthetically pleasing shape. Breast lifts are somewhat more complex procedures than most breast augmentations, for example. With a lift the position of the breasts is overcorrected, that is, lifted somewhat too high, so that in the long run the breast sits in the right position. It then takes a few months until the tissue slowly settles again. As a rule the overcorrected breast settles into the right position in the first 6 weeks. In some cases, however, the definitive final result is only visible after 6-12 months.

Will my breast sag again?

The ageing process naturally continues after a breast lift too. That means that at some point the breast will sag slightly again, but never again as before the breast lift. The condition for an optimal result, however, is that no major fluctuations in weight lie ahead of the patient after the operation. A (further) pregnancy can of course also change the result of the breast lift markedly.
