After breast operations the scars are usually very inconspicuous, but they are not entirely invisible. 

Almost always the scars are placed in the inframammary fold or at the transition between the pigmented skin of the areola and the surrounding lighter breast skin. With breast reductions and more extensive breast lifts an additional vertical scar is also placed at the lower pole of the breast.

With breast augmentations there are, it is true, techniques in which the scars are placed in the armpit or at the navel. Because of the insufficient  precision in the placement of the implants we generally do not recommend these techniques.

In the first 6 months, better 12 months, the scars should be protected from the sun. That is best done with a sunscreen (sun protection factor 50). You should bear in mind that most swimwear does not offer sufficient protection against UV radiation. Sun protection is important in order to avoid a permanent dark discolouration of the scars.

Scar care:

After the operation we give you silicone-containing scar gels for the care of the scars. These should ideally be applied to the scars twice a day for a minimum period of 3 months.
